  Improved Grades and Coatings

Just last September at the EMO exhibition in Hanover, ISCAR unveiled its 3P SUMO TEC unique treatment, which materially improves toughness, smoothness and chipping resistance of the PVD and CVD coatings that are applied to virtually every insert these days. The process also reduces friction and conserves energy while increasing resistance to built-up edge.
The unique process acts to reduce micro cracks on insert surfaces due to differential contraction as the insert cools after CVD coating. With their smoother surface, 3P SUMO TEC inserts run cooler, last longer, clear chips better and can run materially faster.
So far, ISCAR has applied this enhancement to eleven popular insert grades that cover the gamut of milling, turning and drilling applications. Since all SUMO TEC improvements affect the coating surface only, insert geometries are unchanged. All 3P SUMO inserts fit as drop-in replacements into existing cutter bodies and toolholders.
