New NR Chipformer for Roughing, New Geometries and Grades for Finishing and Semi-Finishing
A new chip deflector, designated NR, designed to make roughing applications easier, is now available on ISCAR (ٱNMG inserts). The double-sided inserts with the NR chip deflector cover the full range of applications that the single-sided (ٱNMM insert) performed, but with more cutting edges and a lower price-per-edge for comparable performance. The NR chip deflector is also available on the single-sided (ٱNMM inserts). The inserts with an NR chip deflector have a strong land, a wide chip control groove, and supporting areas on each side to provide secure and accurate positioning. These are essential advantages for high performance in semi-roughing and roughing conditions. Recommended feeds for this insert are 0.25 to 0.80 mm/rev (.01 to .031 ipr) with depths of cut up to 10 mm (.39").

In addition to the NR chip deflector, ISCAR has developed new insert geometries for finishing. These new inserts are available with the SF and SM chipformers and have small corner radii of 0.2 to 0.8 mm (.008 and .032"). Finishing with a fine surface quality, eliminating the need for grinding, may be achieved with the ground positive CCGT and DCGT and the negative CNGG inserts, having sharp cutting edges. For economical machining of medium-to-high volume batches, the unique QNMG inserts with eight cutting edges are available. Their range has been expanded to include inserts with corner radii ranging from 0.4 to 1.2 mm (.016 to .047") and the NF chipformer for semi-finishing and medium conditions.

ISCAR has developed a new submicron substrate with two new coatings: a PVD TiAlN coating, designated IC907, and for a CVD coating with TiCN+Al2O3+TiN designated IC9007. Grade IC907 is recommended for heat resistant alloys, stainless steel and hardened steel with the NF, PP, TF, and SM chipformers. The IC9007 is used mainly for machining cast iron at low-to-medium cutting speeds with standard G-type or GN chipformer. Both grades provide excellent tool life.
