 GDMM8CC Splitter Inserts

Chip Splitting in Grooving and Parting Applications with GDMM 8CC Splitter Inserts
A new GRIP-type insert with a non-continuous frontal cutting edge for chip splitting during grooving and parting is now available from ISCAR. This single-ended, splitter insert has a unique shape to split and brake wide chips into small, short sections. The insert design, designated GDMM8CC, solves problems caused by long, curled chips, especially when using inserts with large widths or in deep grooving applications on certain types of materials. Large chip widths and long chips, even in a curled shape, may disturb certain continuous machining operations.

These new inserts can eliminate much of the unnecessary downtime for chip evacuation. Due to the protruding central portion on the frontal edge, the 8 mm (.315) wide inserts are recommended only for roughing in face grooving, external and internal grooving and in heavy side turning. However, when side turning it should be followed by a finishing operation to eliminate the unavoidable step.

The non-straight bottom groove surface, reflecting the stepped frontal edge of the insert, requires a finishing operation with an additional standard straight cutting edge GRIP tool such as HELIFACE, HELIGRIP, CUT-GRIP or TOP-GRIP. The splitter insert can be clamped on existing CUT-GRIP tools, such as GHDR/L-8, GHFG-8R/L, GHIR/L-8 and CGHN-8D.
